Seriously, no one can make you see the beauty of science like good ol' Carl Sagan. His soothing voice and excellent metaphors (the history of the world in a calandar year? brilliant!) make this series a kind of quiet osmosis of information that might otherwise be too big and complex to understand.

You know that this man LOVES what he is talking about and he makes you feel the wonder and amazement that he does.

I have recommended this series to anyone who will sit still long enough to hear it.

What are you waiting for? Stop reading this and go watch the movie already!!

This is a well presented series that is timeless except that presentation technology has advanced since it was produced. If only we had Dr. Sagan back to do this over today. I highly recommend this series to schools and anyone who wants the facts of our being.

I think that in this series, Carl Sagan was making clear that it is important that we human understand what we had accomplished in the past. Furthermore, this understanding hopefully will help us to keep the peace in the world with the goal to develop our science and technology which does not have boundaries, something that he made clear as well. This product can help in reducing wars in the world.

For sure! I do recommend! To everybody. It did open my mind to a reality that, unhappily, is hidden from the general public. Most people do cover their eyes with superstition, ignorance, pseudo knowledge. Carl Sagan did teach me to think, to question, to know ourselves, to use the scientific tools as the way to reach the truth.

My significant other introduced me to this series several years ago, and I was captivated - it was such an eye opening experience to watch. We didn't own it, so I purchased it as it is a must have on our shelf.

Carl Sagan brings passion and understanding to a subject that would normally dry, leaving you wanting to know more. He brings history and science together in an easy to understand fashion while still explaining overwhelming and amazing information.

I would recommend anyone should watch this wonderful series, it almost should be required!

When this series first appeared on PBS, I was, at the time, a bitter, cynical, ex-hippie, angry over a failed marriage, tired of trying to find happiness in my life.

Then Carl Sagan re-introduced me to something I loved as a child: Science. In viewing this series, I re-learned that to be happy as an adult, one must live life as a child. As I watch him again in this series, he is like a child, full of wonder and amazement at this thing we all live in, the cosmos.

And now, at age 60, as I enter what is the last one-third or so of my life, I realize I owe Mr. Sagan a great debt of gratitute for this series. I wish I had been able to meet him and to personally thank him for this. But, alas, it will never happen.

The cosmos we all live in is full of wonders. To those who find this series boring, take the time to open your eyes and, indeed, think like a child, live life as if every day was Christmas Day. For indeed everyday is Christmas Day.

The cosmos, as Mr. Sagan said, is all there ever was and will ever be. And there can be no grander subject than that.

One of the reviewers stated that this series doesnt traslate well to people in their 20's i have to disagree. i first saw this on t.v. a couple years back at the age of 16 and i was mesmerized. I have never had anything inspire though so emphatically.

This one of the greatest things humans have ever produced. Drifting through all studies, philosophy, morality, hope and fear, from chemistry, mathematics, from the beginning of the universe, to possible futures,Cosmos is always interesting and easy to understand. Sagan,s compassion, and intelligence, are amazing. It is a wonderful introductory tool for almost any area of study, to a young person, presented in a way anyone can appreciate. i only wish i knew about this when i was younger. Most modern astronomy-entertainment (the Universe, for example) retread ALOT of Sagans material, showing just how ahead of his time he really was. This is an infinitely useful tool for any educator. Full of insight, knowledge, and references. An amazing achievement, by any standard. Highly recommended.

Watch this and you will see the importance of humans and what flaws we have caused to science. He never says this because of his respect to people but religion especially Christianity can not work with science. You can't pick red and blue when the wall is only one color and the real color.
