Wonders of the Universe (Hardcover)

SKU ID #302591
$29.99
An unprecedented exploration of the cosmos: This gorgeously illustrated # 1 London Times-bestselling tie-in to the hugely successful BBC documentary series is now available in the US, timed to coincide with the show's US premiere on Discovery's Science Channel.

Experience our universe as you've never seen it before

13.7 billion years old. 93 billion light-years across. It contains over 100 billion galaxies, each containing hundreds of billions of stars. This infinite, vast and complex Universe has been the subject of human fascination and scientific exploration for thousands of years. The wonders of the Universe might seem alien to us and impossible to understand, but away from the telescopes, the labs and the white coats, Professor Brian Cox uses the evidence found in the natural world on Earth to brilliantly explain the truth of the cosmos.

Professor Cox will show how the vast and unfathomable phenomena of deep space can be explained, and even experienced, by re-examining the familiar here on Earth. He is determined to answer the most profound questions we can ask about ourselves and the world in which we live, but in a uniquely understandable way. The laws of light, gravity, time, matter and energy that govern us here on Earth are the same as those applied in the Universe. Using his expert knowledge and his infectious enthusiasm, Professor Cox shows us that if we can understand the impact of these governing laws on Earth it will bring us a step closer to an understanding of our Universe.

    Comments about this product:

This book is fantastic! I watch the Wonders series whenever they are on, and also own the DVD's. The book is just as interesting and exciting as the shows, and Brian Cox never fails to be enthusiastic and fun while teaching you awesome things about the Universe. If you have any interest in stars, galaxies, our solar system, etc. this book is for you. Lots of great graphics too. I haven't put it down since it arrived! Its easy enough to understand, but full of so many scientific items of interest that I find myself reading it as if it were a page-turning novel. Brian Cox is just fantastic, and this book is just further proof of that!

      Comments about this product:

I am older (61) but active, a private pilot. I watch and record these programs, but find the information comes at such a fast rate it's hard to retain all the information Prof. Cox is giving. This book allows me to absorb the information at a slower rate and retain more than by merely watching the show. I have purchased copies for my son (a cardiologist)who has developed an interest in cosmology, and his daughter (12 yrs) as Christmas presents. Meeting Prof. Cox would be a highlite in my life. Keep up the great work!
