Experience the last great race on earth, the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race – a grueling 2-week adventure that pits teams of man and animal against nature in the savage Alaskan wilderness. From Anchorage to Nome, 96 teams will attempt to traverse over a thousand miles of the most inhospitable terrain on the planet with 16 finely tuned dogs as an engine. Chronicle the highs and lows of this intense competition as man and man's best friend must work together, care for each other, and play a disciplined game of strategy if they hope to be first to the finish line in Nome.

The Last Great Race
The 2008 Iditarod race begins and returning champion Lance Mackey already has a hitch in his plan. Iditarod icon DeeDee Jonrowe loses her dog team outside a checkpoint and the mushers prepare to face the dreaded Alaska Range.

Surviving The Alaska Range
The mushers cross the treacherous Alaska Range while DeeDee Jonrowe faces 'the Step,' the sight of her injury last year. Injury also causes Mackey's lead dog to be dropped and Martin Buser takes a strategic rest at Salmon River before beginning the treacherous trek again.

The King And The Pauper
With the Alaska Range behind them, mushers turn their attention to rest – a strategy all its own. Mackey, already down a lead dog, cares for his exhausted team. Jonrowe, nursing a virus, is first to the halfway mark, winning Yukon Gold. But at what price?

Chase On The Yukon
Mackey makes up for lost time while King devises a new plan while Eskimo Nelson debates whether to withdraw from the race. Trouble continues to plague Jonrowe as she is accosted by a drunken fan and the Busers separate to allow former champion, Martin, a chance to go for the gold.

The Great Escape
Mackey continues to break trail for rival King but is catching on to King's game as rookie musher Holt – making a slew of beginner's mistakes – has to decide whether he can carry on.

Nome Or Bust
With the finish at Nome less than 100 miles away, Mackey, King and Martin Buser battle for the finish line. Icon Jonrowe battles to stay in the top 10. And for rookie Holt, just finishing Alaska's toughest race might equal winning.
