If I had to sum up this series in one line, it would be pretty easy: Nothing happens!

I follow Sea Shepherd's activities closely in the news, in their own PR, and in the whalers' PR. And I can tell you this much: There's usually a big difference between what Sea Shepherd says happened, what you see on the show, and what actually happened.

Episode 1 features Sea Shepherds "captain" Paul Watson being "shot" by the whalers. I have to put these words in quotes, because Mr. Watson is not a actual captain, and it turned out even before the season aired that this incident was a hoax. Whale Wars Season 1 doesn't do a very good job of maintaining it; in Episode 7, the dear Captain turns out to be completely unscathed, and shows us all the "bullet", which anyone experienced with firearms can tell you isn't a bullet.

Episode 2 features SS crewers Potts and Giles boarding a whaling ship to deliver a letter and promptly being "kidnapped". Again, I have to put this in quotes, because the reality is that it was a dump-and-run – Sea Shepherd intended to leave the crewers behind all along, to manufacture an international incident as they're detained.

Episode 3 features some drawn out internal suspense and drama as a rookie boat crew gets themselves lost.

Episode 4 features Sea Shepherd freaking out over a Japanese ship tailing them. No, I'm not kidding, that's the whole episode.

Episode 5 features some crewers partying and deciding to leave when they stop by Australia for a bit. Yeah, right. Oh, and that Japanese ship is still following them. And they're still being a bunch of crybabies about it.

Episode 6 is comedy gold. Sea Shepherd decides to send out four female crewmembers to harass the whalers, since, being Japanese whalers, they must obviously be sexist, patriarchal types who'll be totally rattled by this. They fail miserably at launching a zodiac, seriously injuring one of the crew. And a warning is issued from one of the whaling ships – in a woman's voice. Oops. Then Sea Shepherd's decrepit old ship loses power. Wow, these guys sure do know how to spend donors' money.

Episode 7 finally shows the "shooting" in full context – Sea Shepherd was in the middle of an all-out pirate attack on the whalers' factory ship and had plenty of warning to turn away before they would defend themselves. After the "shooting", Sea Shepherd notes that they're running low on fuel, so they spontaneously decide that their presence has saved 500 whales, declare the mission a resounding success, and head back to Australia as heroes.

Throughout the series there are some repeated mistruths, for for example that the "stinkbombs" Sea Shepherd throws are harmless rotten butter, than the Japanese are hunting hundreds of endangered whales, and so on. It pretty much becomes clear that Sea Shepherd makes up their own reality as they go along.

This DVD is excellent, I love it, have a very well information about what the Sea Shepherd's crew did in the 2007-2008 campaing to protect the whales.
This is one of my favorites DVD that I have.

I watch the movie over and over in my home. I admire Captain Paul Watson and the crew. By watching it often it keeps me driven to offer donations and keep spreading the word amongst people I know and don't know, especially at the market. I will never give up.

I am a new supporter of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. This documentary (Season 1) was the perfect introduction - for me - to this organization's fight to save the whales.

I originally started watching this amazing television documentary series when it was first added to the Animal Planet line-up. Sadly throughout the last two seasons I unfortunately missed quite a number of the episodes due to no longer having the channel available. While traveling throughout the US, I was actually able to catch the show quite frequently which made me regain my interest in it, so much so that I immediately ordered both Seasons 1 and 2. Needless to say, I now cannot wait for Season 3 to be released on DVD!

I had heard and donated to the Sea Shepard organization before. I was so disappointed to see that they can't make a bigger difference. It is great for people to become aware of how cruel whaling is, perhaps just gaining more attention will change things.

This has got to be the best thing on dvd and discovery channel at the minute.Edge of the seat stuff.It is awsome and these people (sea shepard) have brought a plight of the innocent whales and the murdering japanese to light.I cant wait for the next series and for you to stop these murderers in the name of science(my bum it is)

Reality TV at an international level. I love it. I'll get season two on DVD when it comes out. And am waiting on pins and needles for season three to start so we can see their latest addition to the fleet in action.

I've followed some of the other Sea Shepherd missions and work and find them fascinating. I'm pleased that a network would pick up a program with such an important message even if it is a bit controversial.

I don't have cable so i odered this. I am an SSCS member and support SSCS through monthly donations. For the amount of time the film crew was out there with the SSCS i would think they would have more footage. Looks like season 2 has an extra 3 hours. Already pre-ordered. Looking forward to it. Give anyone who wants to volunteer a good idea of what it would be like to be on the ship.

I never got a chance to watch Season One on Animal Planet and became a fan after coming in late and watching Season Two. The biggest difference between the two seasons is the focus on the nuts and bolts to stop whaling vs. crew interaction/conflict. Season One seems to focus on the latter but I wouldn't shy away from this set because of that simply due to the insight revealed into the mechanics of a group like the SSCS.
My biggest, and only, complaint falls on the heels of the most exciting part of the series: the boarding of the Japanese whaling ship by two SSCS crew members. I would have liked to have found out a bit more as to what went on while the two were captive on the Japanese ship.

At the very least I would recommend this set to anyone who has an interest in conservation/environmental issues as it provides a great glimpse into a movement that exists upon direct actions rather than just stating a belief and asking for people's money. It's pretty inspirational and provides a great basis for the second season.

Very informative, indepth episodes that will keep you wanting more.

It's the best.I love whale wars. The volunters crew have beautiful heart and intention to keep these ancient beautiful creature, THE GOOD LORD made.I watch them over and over.The sea sheperds did their best to protect them, the lives and freedom of these whales,just like our volunters military they scrifice their lives for the fredom of humanity and this country.May The GOOD LORD JESUS will wrapped HIS HANDS OF SAFETY,GRACE AND MERCY to ALL of you!!!!!!!.Please ask for HIS Safety and WISDOM.Please AMERICA and ALL COUNTRY out there get involve in any way you can to save these whales.
