The weapons of three eras, WWI, WWII and the Cold War, are pitted against each other to determine history's most powerful fighting machines.

World War I
In 1917, Europe was deeply entrenched in World War I, and aviation was in its infancy. Nations were using new technology to wage the war where it had never been waged before: in the sky. The Sopwith Camel was king of the British fighter planes. The "Camels" shot down more aircraft than any other fighter in the war. Germany responded with the Fokker DR1 Triplane. Which was the superior fighter plane?

Down on the ground another battle was taking place. In August 1914, Germany had invaded France. Both sides had similar weapons but the British favored the 18lb field gun. The Germans favored the field Howitzer. Which was the more effective weapon?

World War II
Leading the German airborne assault was the Luftwaffe's most advanced fighter aircraft, the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Meeting the Nazis head-on over the White Cliffs of Dover were the Allies in their brilliant new fighter – the Spitfire.

Take to the skies as modern replicas of both fighter planes are pitted against each other, in order to find out which design was better; which airplane the superior flier; and which was the better weapon of war.

The Cold War
During the Vietnam War, Russia's AK47 assault rifle first went head-to-head with its American competitor, the M16. It was to be the proving ground for these new infantry super guns.

The Korean War was the first time that the Russian MIG 15 jet fighter and the original American Sabre F86 faced each other in battle. Now we put the MIG and Sabre back in the air to see which jet would win in the battle for supremacy of the skies.
