Running In The Rain
Who gets wetter? A person running through the rain or a person walking? This has long been the subject of debate among school kids, but did you know it has even been the subject of at least three clinical studies with varying conclusions?
Is it possible to throw a regular playing card fast enough to inflict bodily harm? Adam and Jamie put it to the test to see if an ordinary playing card can be turned into an instrument of death, and actually kill someone.
Buttered Side Down or Up?
Adam and Jamie try out one of the most popular myths around – does toast really fall buttered side down? In this breakfast brain teaser, they each build a rig to simulate toast being dropped from the dining room table. The aim is to eliminate human hands from the equation, and they decide to join forces and design the most high-tech toast maker and dropper possible. Always looking to push the envelope, they end up tossing toast off the workshop roof, in an endeavour to answer this age-old myth once and for all.
Phone Booth Quick Change
You’re not seeing things. As uncomfortable as it is, it’s true. The MythBusters are wearing their underpants on the outside. And why? To see how quickly you can change into a super-outfit before fighting crime.
Plane on A Conveyer Belt
Adam and Jamie wrestle at the controls of a super-controversial myth that’s confounded the fans, confused the physicists and even upset Jamie! Finally, after numerous requests, the guys tackle the monster myth Airplane on a Conveyor Belt! Will an airplane be able to take off if the conveyor belt it is sitting on matches its takeoff speed, but in the opposite direction?
There’s a classic scene in the movie Scent of a Woman where Al Pacino’s blind character takes the wheel of a Ferrari® and puts his pedal to the metal. Assisted by his panicked passenger, he cruises down the back streets of New York. But is this really possible? Adam and Jamie take turns in putting on the blindfold to try this out.
Phone Book Friction
If you interweave the pages of two phone books, are they impossible to pull apart? In true MythBusters style the team ramps and revs things up until they get the answers they need by trying to pull apart two phone books, using everything from human strength to the biggest tool they can find!
The myth contends that a house will suffer significantly less damage in a major storm if all the windows are actually left open. Small-scale tests at a nearby NASA research facility provide some very clear data, so it’s off to The University of Florida to test a bigger house with the world’s largest portable hurricane simulator. The MythBusters huff and puff their way towards a spectacular conclusion: is there really a difference between “windows open” and “windows closed”?
To cling on by your fingertips is a classic silver screen cliché that the guys couldn’t resist investigating. Just about every action movie has a variation of the death defying clings, but are any of them actually viable? To find out, our intrepid trio tackle two. First can you hang on indefinitely? In the movies there seems to be no limit to the heroes hang-time and they keep their grip until good guy number two comes to the rescue. To test it, the team simply hangs out. Albeit above an adrenaline inducing 75 foot drop!
Adam and Jamie take on the traditional magic trick of the tablecloth whip, but with a supercharged twist.
Dodge A Bullet
Adam and Jamie test whether you can ever jump out of the way of a bullet. From measuring the travel time of bullets, to testing human reaction time, to studying the visual clarity of a muzzle flash in the first place. And it’s an epic journey that ends in the only way it can – with the guys shooting each other and trying to jump out of the way.
BONUS - Best Explosions
Adam and Jamie go for destructive results as they compete for the best explosion. Find out if using a cell phone at a gas station will cause the pump to explode and test the limits of a homemade tree cannon.
