The Day the Earth Nearly Died DVD takes you back millions of years ago to a time when the whole earth was thriving. That changed when the Permian mass extinction occurred and changed evolution forever. The Earth DVD The Day the Earth Nearly Died explores that cause of that awesome destruction and asks whether it will happen again.

The Day the Earth Nearly Died DVD tells that two hundred fifty million years ago, before the time of the dinosaurs, the earth flourished. Every niche " from the highest mountain to the deepest ocean " was buzzing with life. In the earth DVD The Day the Earth Nearly Died, filmmakers show that then the earth experienced the single most destructive event in its history. Ninety-five percent of all species disappeared in just a few thousand years " the blink of a geological eye. The nature DVD The Day the Earthy Nearly Died, calls it the Permian mass extinction and it was the worst disaster ever to hit earth. It shattered ecological order and changed evolution forever. In the science DVD you hear that for decades, the cause of this disaster has been a mystery. But recently, an extraordinary discovery has shed new light on the event, forcing scientists to point the finger at a massive meteor strike " just like the one that took out the dinosaurs. The Discovery DVD The Day the Earth Nearly Died, shares that if both the Permian mass extinction and the dinosaur extinction were caused by meteors, then scientists will have to rethink how likely a future devastating impact may be...suddenly the odds are much higher.

Shop for The Day the Earth Nearly Died DVD, and listen to scientists who have uncovered the cause of the Permian mass extinction.

I enjoyed this very much. This video encourages me to find out more about mass extinctions. Also liked the geology information presented. For anyone who has an interest in mass extinctions or ancient geology, I would highly recommend this. I would like to see more like this.

        Comments about this product:

This is a story for the serious paleontology student. It is slightly older than many of the other titles dealing with prehistoric life. So it lacks scenes showing the living fawna to the extent of newer selections. But the story is much more about the geology than the indevidual species that died off. This may make it less entertaining for the younger viewer. But this is not a trip to the zoo. The scientists are the stars. Their ideas and theories unfold like flowers. And,like any good detective story, there are twists and turns. People find out they are wrong, just when everything seems to make sence. And the end takes a completely differant direction than it appeared in the beginning.
In one hour we see how years of research all over the world come together to solve one of the most profound questions in science.
Over 200 million years ago the was Earth full of life with reptiles and exotic creatures filling every niche in the food chain the world over. So what happenned that killed off 90% of every kind of life paving the way for the dinosaurs?
The answer is neither simple nor obvious. But it is fascinating.

            Comments about this product:

Who knew there was this wonderful lush world long before dinosaurs and it practically vanished in an instant? Obviously some scientists did.
200 million years ago there was life thriving on Earth. Then it suddenly vanished from the fossil record. This is called the "Permian Extinction".
This is a facinating look at what that world was like and the probable disaster that wiped 95% of all life from our planet. Could it happen again???
